En el trabajo de Charbel-joseph H. Boutros lo invisible está cargado con lo íntimo, con la geografía y con la historia, trazando líneas poéticas que se extienden más allá del ámbito de las especulaciones y las realidades existentes. Nacido en medio de la guerra del Líbano, sus obras no entran explícitamente en la discusión política e histórica, sino que más bien se dejan embrujar por ella.
El espacio inmediato se convierte en una interface en la que las distintas obras generan interrelaciones complementarias, efectos espejo y traslapes. Su trabajo reflexiona además en el carácter performativo de sus escuetas instalaciones, en su poder de actuar sobre los dominios cognitivo, sensorial y afectivo. Se centran principalmente en la experiencia, en ofrecer al visitante la posibilidad de encontrarse con situaciones inmersivas en las que se involucran la percepción, la memoria y la evocación. La nostalgia de lo que se ha perdido y el intento de suplantarlo son temas recurrentes en su práctica.
La naturaleza fragmentaria y abierta de su trabajo insta al público a crear sus propias narrativas e imágenes mentales. Al modular la manera de mostrar y la proximidad entre obras escuetas aunque altamente alusivas, explora las analogías y oscilaciones entre lo visible y lo invisible al igual que las interrelaciones entre presencia y ausencia, entre lo tangible y lo volátil.
Charbel-joseph H. Boutros(Monte Libano, 1981. Vive y trabaja entre Beirut y Paris) fue artista residente del Pavillon, Palais de Tokyo, Paris; fue investigador en la Jan van Eyck Academie, Holanda. Su obra se ha expuesto internacionalmente en instituciones como: The 12th International Istanbul Biennial, Untitled, Turquia; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; 3rd Bahia Biennial; 1st Yinchuan Biennial, China; 104, Paris; MAM-BA Museo de Arte Moderno, Salvador, Brasil; CCA Warsaw, Poland; More Konzeption Conception Now, Morsbroich Museum, Alemania; LAM, Museo de Arte Moderno y Contemporáneo de Lilles; Beirut Art Center, Libano; Frieze, Londres; Maraya Art Center, Sharjah; Marres, Holanda, Fons Welters Gallery, Amsterdam, Grey Noise, Dubai, Jaqueline Martins Gallery, Sao Paulo, LISTE 19, Basel , Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah. Su instalación permanente ‘Sueur d’etoile’, creada con la bailarina francesa Marie-Agnes Gillot, se inauguró en junio de 2016 y permanece expuesta en el Palais de Tokyo, Paris, Francia. La obra de Boutros forma parte de las colecciones CNAP, Paris, Francia y Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah, UAE.
GALERIA JAQUELINE MARTINS (Sao Paulo) es un espacio para la investigación, la documentación y la exhibición de producción artística contemporánea. Propone estrategias curatoriales colaborativas que alimentan el dialogo entre distintas generaciones y distintas perspectivas culturales. Uno de los principios que la guían es el apoyo a las prácticas conceptualistas ligadas a la investigación y caracterizadas por un sesgo crítico e incluso subversivo.
CONDOtoma su nombre de la palabra “condomino” y es una exposición colaborativa a gran escala de galerías internacionales. Las galerías de acogida comparten su espacio con las galerías visitantes. La iniciativa promueve la reevaluación de los modelos existentes, la puesta en común de los recursos y la actuación colectiva para proponer un entorno que permita la generación de exposiciones experimentales en un contexto de galerías internacional.

In Charbel-joseph H. Boutro’s work invisibility is charged with intimate, geographical and historical layers, finding poetic lines that extend beyond the realm of existing speculations and realities. Being born in the middle of the Lebanese war, his art is not engaged in an explicit political and historical reflection, but is more accurately haunted by it.
Immediate space is turned into an interface where distinct pieces come together to generate complementary interrelations, mirror effects and overlaps. His work further reflects the performative character of his stripped-down installations, its power to act upon the cognitive, sensorial and affective domains. They are primarily centered on the experiential, on offering the visitor the possibility to encounter immersive situations which meddle and engage with perception, memory and evocation. The longing for what is missing and the attempt to supply it are recurrent topics in his practice. Because of the fragmentary and open-ended nature of Boutrosʼwork, viewers are encouraged to create their own narratives and mental images. By modulating the display and proximity between stark, yet highly allusive pieces, he explores analogies and oscillations between visible and invisible; as well as the interrelationships between presence and absence, tangible and volatile.

GALERIA JAQUELINE MARTINS(Sao Paulo) is a space for research, documentation and presentation of contemporary artistic production. It proposes collaborative curatorial strategies that foster dialogue between different generations and different cultural perspectives. One of its guiding principles is the encouragement of research-oriented conceptualist practices characterized by critical, even subversive, approaches.
CONDOtakes its name from ‘condominium’ and is a large-scale collaborative exhibition of international galleries. Host galleries share their spaces with visiting galleries – either by co-curating an exhibition together, or dividing their galleries and allocating spaces. The initiative encourages the evaluation of existing models, pooling resources and acting communally to propose an environment that is more conducive for experimental gallery exhibitions to take place internationally.
